Design Brief:

To create a product that represents Toronto and still follows the MUJI philosophy.

Muji’s Core principles:

In order to design a MUJI product, I first needed to understand the philosophy and core principles, that stems from Japanese design culture.

“Simplicity and emptiness yield the ultimate universality, embracing the feelings and thoughts of all people.”

Research - Interviews

I asked multiple people on their opinions about Toronto and what Toronto means to them. Throughout the interviews that I did, some responses stood out to me. A friend of mine said that "Toronto is a city full of organized chaos." I found that the way he phrased it was so fascinating yet very true. Despite all busy schedule, I am able to rest and collect my thoughts. Another thing that stood out to me was when one of my classmates said, "Toronto is a place of excitement and adventure." I resonated with that phrase because Toronto is like my 4th home and is still really new to me so it does feel like a place of excitement and adventure. The interviews that i did led me to designing a product for the home, and eventually I narrowed it down to storage, specifically storage for accessories.
